GUNDAM UNICORN Empty Masked Mullet Man...

Post  Chiaki Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:52 pm

Okay that looks pretty good, CG in anime was like, MADE for Gundam/mech animes. I still think the "unicorn" part looks a bit silly... but hey it's just me. Razz

One thing I gotta say though, OMG why does Zechs/Czar whatever his name is for the masked man, why does he have like a curley mullet?!?! He was always the hottest character and they ruined him... WHYYYYYYY??!

Ha ha Chiaki. Another Reason why girls are not big Gundam fans. For a mech buff like me I think the Unicorn looks great and the setting is after 3 years of Char's Counter Attack so that's our new mask man.

Well at least he is blond.....

I'm looking forward to seeing it, however it is generally best to be cautiously optimistic about anything with the name "Gundam" in the title

1) Gundam popped my Mecha Cherry. I like the Gundam series. And how does the unicorn thing mean girls don't like it? That makes no sense to me Razz

2) At least he's blond is almost like saying at least he's wearing a red shirt it doesn't matter, he's not HOT! T.T What shall I oggle? *lesigh*

Because this guy is not Char Aznable. This is guy is called Full Frontal. He has Char's voice and charisma and pilots a red mobile suit, but he's not Char. And Gundam Wing's Zechs Merquise was a terrible Char wannabe.

I'm still not entirely sure what to think of Gundam Unicorn. I was never that much of a fan of the Universal Century Gundam series. From what I've seen and read it has a very interesting setting, not to mention awesome mecha designs, but it once more revives the "Key left in the Ignition" meme.

I'm definately gonna watch it, but I'm not gonna expect it to be the best since sliced bread. Plus, the stuff Sunrise put out for the 20th Anniversary was not that overwelming either. I haven't seen a lot of Turn A yet, but it seems very off from the rest of Gundam, it seems more like as if Miyazaki was directing it and not Tomino, and let's not talk about the life-action Canadian G-Saviour movie >_>

I'm going to have to say this Saber. Turn A is one of the examples in how Gundam can be interpreted in many ways. Though I haven't seen it yet I think that G, and Turn A are just alternative interpretations in Gundam. Sure they stray away from the original Gundam material but IT IS still Gundam.

Though i think we can all agree that G-Saviour was just bad. i personally wish that they had held off on a Gundam live action and waited for a bigger budget and tweaked the story ALOT more.

GUNDAM UNICORN Empty Gundam Unicorn First Episode review ALERT SPOILER WARNING

Post  Mikhail Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:08 pm

Ok so the LONG awaited Gundam Unicorn episode 1 has arrived on the Internet and im very impressed with the story, characters and art. Oh yes and the Mech designs are beautiful even the long awaited RX-0 Unicorn looks menacing and not cheesy as has been speculated upon. Now being a Universal Century Timeline story it has many hoping for premium storytelling and a plot that is engaging and entertaining to watch. So what say we see how the first episode panned out.

Now the episode opens with the Prime minister of the Earth Federation on Laplace Station delivering an inspiring speach to the people of Earth and Space to ring in the new Universal Century. (known to all Gundam fans as U.C. 0000) durring the speach there is a scene with people in EVA suits doing something to the station. Soon after th station explodes killing untold millions followed by the terrorist tranport, though leaving one survivor from the terrorist shuttle. his name is a mystery and as he reaches out for a U.C. memorial piece Not knowing exactlly what it is. We then fast forward 100 years to the same man thinking back to this tragedy, and talking to his son Cardeas Vist the head of the prominent Vist foundation and chairman of Anaheim Electronics. They dicuss that this plan has the possibility to destroy the world and when Cardeas is asked if he forgives his father he responds he i the only one who can.

Next we are shown a ship under attack by Federation Moblie suits. This ship turns out to be a sleeve (name for this Neo-Zeon movement) vessel on its way to industrial 7 to recieve the Laplace box from the Vist Foundation. It's here that we see a familiar face. Mineva Zabi.
GUNDAM UNICORN Vlcsnap2010022412h14m11

Following a very intricate and beautifully choreographed fight scene we are introduced to a bunch of kids in school who wish to join Anaheim Electronics. Here we meet Banagher Links our Protagonist who has a feeling he isnt where he is supposed to be. At this point we get our first glimpse of the Unicorn which sends Banagher into a shock. After a beautiful scene of the handaling of the Unicorn there is a scene where Cardeas Vist sits at his desk and looks at the profile of Banagher Links.
GUNDAM UNICORN Vlcsnap2010022412h24m33
GUNDAM UNICORN Vlcsnap2010022413h35m21

As we slowely peice together that Mineva Zabi has come to stop the aquisiton of the box we find her adrift and falling to her death. through a newtype flash Links swiftly heads to her rescue leading to a staple mecha scene.we then find out the reason Mineva wishes to stop the retrieving of the box is to prevent war from breaking out.

GUNDAM UNICORN Vlcsnap2010022413h40m52

After rescuing her Links brings her to the Vist Mansion where he has strange flashbacks and a feeling of he has been to this place before. After much more development and Links being sent back to his class Vist tells Mineva he will give the key to laplace's box to the sleeve's. durring the meeting between the sleeve's and Vist the Londo Bell attack the colony and war breaks out.

GUNDAM UNICORN Vlcsnap2010022414h00m05

During the chaos two of links classmates and Mineva are picked up by a Federation Pilot. and brought to safety While Links is drifting through the battered colony looking for Mineva. durring his search he finds Vist and has an overwhelming conversation in which he finds out that the RX-0 is the key to the Laplace box and that Vist is placing Banagher his Son that his wife took from him (Shock gasp!) in charge of the Unicorn and the fate of mankind. Then he dramatically dies. Links then takes the Unicorn out and we see its deadly potential then to everyones shock it transforms and Mineva almost heartbroken calls it a Gundam.

GUNDAM UNICORN Vlcsnap2010022414h12m57

Now while this was filled with usual plot twist's for gundam they handaled them differantly than before. When we meet links we find out he has been trained to use small suits, leaving his ability to pilot a mobile suit at least not as prominent a question as in other shows. And i am personally greatful that our main character isnt a crybaby or an emotionless robot. I also liked how they showed us that Banagher was a Newtype through little clues and not just blatantly throwing it out there. i actually feel a lot better about a show when it doesnt treat me like an idiot.

This show has a lot to live up to and the first episode i can say delievered unequivocally. I am excited to see this show released and its upcoming episodes. With bated breath i await episode 2 of Gundam Unicorn. This show i believe will help rekindle everything we love about Mecha and take it forward. And even though this is a Mecha Anime after watching the first episode i believe even if you arent a mecha fan you can like this show. This show has started beautifully i can only hope it continues to do so.

On Mrach 12 Bandai is haveing a universal release of Gundam Unicorn Episode 1. Be sure to pre-order your copy off Amazon so Bandai will hopefully bring us more Gundam enjoyment in the future.

Things I would like to note

-Banaugher is a great Gundam lead.
-Unicorn Gundam with the Destroy mode unleashed is just sheer awesome.
-Great music especially the first sequence.
- Animation is by far the best animation in any Gundam to date.

This all sums up to be the probably (as I was discussing earlier with Saber), one of the best first episodes in any Gundam...ever.

I will give it some more run throughs for the first episode just because I would like/want to review it in my section in this forum.

Well you can't really compare between the 2 yet, just because this 1st episode only. Not to mention you need to have a significant ground in the world of UC.

Saw it! I found it amazing and enjoyably predictable. You sorta know how its going to play out but its still interesting to see how it does it. I found the characters interesting and the pacing was pretty good. I think this is shaping up to be a great gundam show...though we'll have to wait till fall for the next episode. Can't wait for more!
