Top Five OPs Empty Top Five OPs

Post  Ryani Thu Aug 20, 2009 7:55 pm

What are your top five OPs? Hell, what are your top five EDs? Top five songs? I'd like to see what they are!

I haven't yet finalized my list, but I definitely know my top OP.

Oh, and by the way, people? "Cruel Angel's Thesis" and "Tank!" do not count.

Thank you Ryani for saying those two don't count! Everyone has them, and well to be frank I don't even think the Eva opening is really that good *braces for the impending attack*

Are you wondering based upon song alone? Or song and video? Because some openings have great songs and crappy videos or vice versa.

Well, I think either you should do top five songs OP or ED or otherwise, or do top five OPs counting visuals and audio.

Personally, I love "Cruel Angel's Thesis." The visuals are okay, but the song is amazing (to me.)

. . .that reminds me, I feel like I should go make a Gainax post.

I'd have to say

1. Sakura-Nirgilis (4th opening of Eureka seveN)
2. Beautiful Fighter-Angela (Shikabane Hime)
3. World End-FLOW (2nd Opening of Code Geass: R2)
4. Ready, Steady, Go-L'arc en ciel (opening of FMA)
5. Daybreak's Bell-L'arc en ciel (opening of Mobile Suit Gundam 00)

These are not in that particular order, but they are my favorites.

I feel like such a noob, but what are those things? I don't actually watch as much anime as I'd like to, so yeah...I mostly read manga, because I have a monitor made of horrible fail, so watching videos for more than five minutes makes it crash. Pluse I don't know where to find any anime...All I can find are Youtube and Anime6...sometimes.

But the opening to FMA is great.

OP is just an abbreviation of "Opening," and ED is an abbreviation of "Ending."

Okay. Places to find anime. First of all, Anime News Network has a bunch, as do Funimation.com and Crunchyroll. Plus, these are all legal. But if you don't mind fansubs and they don't have something you want or you don't live in the U.S, try kumby.com.

Thanks, Ry. Once I get a monitor that won't die with high visuals, I'll actually watch more anime.

Top Five OPs Empty My list

Post  Chiaki Thu Aug 20, 2009 9:12 pm

Okay, I'll likely edit this as I think of things and want to change my answer Razz But this is my first inital list, in no particular order.

Last Exile: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUjiXriGFbo
The song is good, as well as I really appreciate the fact that they don't do that cliche turn and smile to introduce the characters in the opening, plus, it gives you a good feel for the anime.
Baccano!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Msg8ypnLqaw&feature=fvst
Jazzy, up-beat, sexy and fun, what more do you need an an opening? Not to mention the cinema for the opening is really good.
Ayakashi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuKgk3ojSvk
Stunning visuals combined with a great song.
Nana 2nd Opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2QU7Z1zdiA
A good video, great symbolism and an awesome song makes for a grade A opening.
Spice and Wolf (First Season): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZkVmtYgQIc&feature=fvw
One of the main reasons I love this opening is because of the scene transfers with the music. And everything else is great too.

====== MY PERSONAL FAVORITES =======
~Openings~

Orphen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvbVF2Q9qgM
Cool song, kind of sexy, and shows how kickass Orphen is as a character. While the anime is only okay (it's still a personal favorite) the opening is very good for an old anime
Revolutionary Girl Utena: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL25C0H9vVw
While this opening is, again old, and I am, again biased. I feel that the opening tells a the story of the series much like the series is, through symbolism. Beyond that the song is very good.
Air the 1000th summer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNM0YDFQbys
The opening tributes to the anime's game roots, while still remaining visually stunning and showcasing the series. Not to mention the opening also introduces some plot, and the song is great.

~Endings~

Kenshin, 6th ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2-pP4tIiO4
While the footage to this song leaves something to be desired the song is little short of nothing but awesome. Since the song is so amazing and the video does not entirely suck it merits making a list in my book.

I admit, these are my personal preference over a technical analysis. Embarassed

I love doing things like this because I learn about openings that I've never heard of or seem Very Happy

L'arc en ciel reminds me of GTO opening, Drivers High, which is also a fantastic Opening... *mentally adds to list*

Top Five OPs Empty Elfen Lied.

Post  Mitsugi Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:05 pm

I will not submit a top 5 at this time due to having too many to choose from. However, it should be a given that Elfen Lied has one of the best intros ever.

I agree with the Baccano and Last Exile OPs. The Last Exile ED is also one of my favorites as well.

So I'd have to say:

  • Baccano!
  • Bounen_no_Xamdou
  • Naruto - Wind (Don't ask me why)
  • Elfen Lied
  • Soul Eater - PAPERMOON

Although if the opening sequence to Origin - Spirits of the Past counts, I'd have to say that blows everything else away:
Opening Video

I personally think Elfen lied has one of the best openings ever. It has a very strong atmosphere to it.

It's a shame that that anime has some terrible genre clashing, but I still like it.

4) Love Hina
5) Hellsing

kinda of a hard toss up with the last two spots. many good themes i like.

You know what's hilarious? I was just about to post that "Resonance" is my favorite OP and opening animation ever.

You know why? Because from 30 seconds to 40 seconds, Shinigami-sama, Medusa and Excaliber are CLEARLY ROCKING OUT TO RESONANCE. There's no other explanation for why they're moving in the way they are, in addition to the fact that they're also moving to the beat.
